The Mariners swung the first blockbuster trade of the offseason, acquiring All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernández from the Blue Jays on Wednesday. Toronto received right-handed reliever Erik Swanson and lefty pitching prospect Adam Macko in return.
Hernández, 30, is a two-time Silver Slugger with a career .262/.319/.499 batting line with 133 home runs and 380 RBIs in seven MLB seasons with Toronto and Houston. He hit 25 home runs with an .807 OPS last season and is due to be a free agent next offseason.
Macko, 21, is the Mariners’ No. 8 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, while Swanson, 29, had a 1.68 ERA with 70 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings for Seattle last year.
