IN THE NEWS: TWITTER WORKERS RESIGN IN WAKE OF MUSK EMAIL
UNDATED (AP) — Go hardcore — or go home? For many Twitter employees, the right move was to go home. The social media site continues to bleed off engineers and other workers after new owner Elon Musk challenged those employees he didn’t already fire to step up their game or resign with severance pay. It’s unclear how many Twitter workers have taken Musk up on his do-more-or-be-gone edict. But it’s clear Twitter is likely to be shorthanded as it gears up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, one of the busiest events on the site.

Get more from the Citrus County Chronicle
WASHINGTON (AP) — All the craziness surrounding Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter has gotten the attention of lawmakers on Capitol Hill. A group of Democratic senators want federal regulators to see if Twitter is guilty of violating consumer-protection laws — or commitments to secure its data. The senators are asking the Federal Trade Commission to investigate — and take enforcement action if needed. Just last week, the FTC said it was “tracking recent developments at Twitter with deep concern.” When Musk took over Twitter and drastically cut back staff, experts and employees warned it could result in serious security risks.

Andy Jassy wrote employees to say workers in its devices and books divisions may face layoffs in 2023. Some of those workers will get a voluntary buyout offer. Amazon joins Twitter and Facebook’s parent firm Meta in cutting staff.

SONY LINKBUDS S NOISE-CANCELING EARBUDS
SAN DIEGO (AP) — It’s a sound investment for both for your ears — and the environment. Sony Electronics has added an “Earth Blue” version of its LinkBuds S noise-canceling wireless earbuds. The new color joins the white, black and ecru colors that have been out since last May. Parts of the body and the case of the LinkBuds S in Earth Blue are crafted from recycled water bottle materials, giving the buds a cool, marble-like pattern. They are comfortable to wear and do a nice job of keeping out extraneous noise. The use of recyclables is part of Sony’s effort to help reduce its environmental footprint.
