The 1 p.m. timeslot proved to be the highlight of the day, started off with Cordarrelle Patterson’s record-breaking performance for the Atlanta Falcons. The 10th-year running back, who is used more as a utility player, returned a kickoff 103 yards to the house just four minutes before the end of the first half. His score marked the ninth time in his NFL career the Rock Hill, South Carolina native took a kick return all the way to the end zone, breaking the tie atop the NFL career leaderboards in the category. He had previously been tied with Josh Cribbs and Leon Washington for the mark but stands alone after Sunday’s performance and helped the Falcons to a 27-24 victory over the Chicago Bears.
Down in New Orleans, Alvin Kamara turned in another strong game and etched himself into Saints lore, eclipsing 9,000 all-purpose yards in the contest. The back joined Marques Colston as the only Saints player to achieve that benchmark in franchise history. Kamara finished with 91 all-purpose yards in the 27-20 New Orleans victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
For Michael Palardy and the New England Patriots, the 60-minute battle with the New York Jets was dominated by defense, but it was the play of special teams that was the deciding factor. Neither offense scored a point in the game and a late punt return for a score made the difference. With field position at a premium, Palardy was strong all afternoon after being elevated from the practice squad to the active roster before the game. He boomed seven punts for 317 yards, an average of 45.3 per punt, pinning two punts inside the 20-yard-line. His longest kick of the game went for 52 yards in his 2022 debut.
The day of action concluded with Joshua Palmer dazzling in prime-time action on Sunday Night Football. The second-year Charger receiver logged his second career 100-yard game, doing so for the second time in three weeks with 106 yards on eight receptions. He also reeled in a pair of touchdown passes from Justin Herbert for his first career multi-touchdown game. His second score came with just 1:46 remaining on the clock, but a late drive by Kansas City turned the game and resulted in a Los Angeles defeat, 30-27.
