Two clubs seeking a bounce-back result meet in the Supercopa de Espana (Spanish Super Cup) semifinals in Saudi Arabia hoping to bolster their chances of securing silverware and return to form ahead of a return to La Liga play.
Real Madrid fell three points behind leaders Barcelona after defeat to Villarreal in the Spanish top flight over the weekend, well beaten by fellow European contenders who put up over 3.0 expected goals in the match. That, coupled with Barcelona’s win over Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital, saw Los Blancos handed a deficit in the title race.
Valencia, meanwhile, have been defeated in both league matches since returning from the World Cup break, falling to Villarreal as well before defeat to Cadiz last time out. The attack has especially sputtered, as they held 74 percent possession against Cadiz at home but generated just two shots on target in the entire match.
Valencia have beaten Real Madrid twice since 2019, but both victories came at home in league play, while they fell in their last Super Cup meeting against them back in January 2020.

Real Madrid vs Valencia lineups, team news
The most notable absence for Carlo Ancelotti to work through is that of midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who did not make the trip to Saudi Arabia as he deals with a calf injury suffered in training on Monday. That has opened the door for 18-year-old Mario Martin who is in the squad, although he will likely be behind Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga in contention for a starting midfield spot.
Also out injured is defender David Alaba who is another player dealing with a calf problem that he picked up in the match against Villarreal last weekend. Antonio Rudiger is likely to partner with Eder Militao in defense with Alaba missing.
Karim Benzema is in decent form since the World Cup break wrapped, with three goals in two matches, although his penalty conversion wasn’t enough last time out against Villarreal.
Real Madrid projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Courtois (GK) — Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, F. Mendy — Valverde, Kroos, Modric — Rodrygo, Benzema, Vinicius Jr.

Valencia also have a major absence to contend with as Nico Gonzalez misses out due to a broken foot that could sideline the young midfielder for over a month.
Meanwhile, Samu Castillejo is absent after having surgery to repair a broken wrist. That could mean additional minutes for Justin Kluivert who is on loan from Roma.
American international Yunus Musah will feature as part of the squad despite forgetting his passport on the trip to Saudi Arabia, needing a family member to rush it to the airport before departure.
Valencia projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Mamardashvili (GK) — Correia, Comert, Diakhaby, Gaya — Musah, Guillamon, Almeida — Kluivert, Cavani, Lino.

Real Madrid vs Valencia betting odds
With both teams in poor form of late, Real Madrid are heavily favored in this match as the default for being the bigger club and stronger side on paper.
In fact, Madrid are such heavy favorites that the spread has shifted to 1.5, meaning Madrid are expected to win by multiple goals. This, despite the fact that one of Madrid’s critical midfield components (Aurelien Tchouameni) won’t be available for the match.
