TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Arizona Women’s Golf kept its fourth-place position through the third and final day of the Florida State Match-Up, finishing 30-over par. Freshman Carolina Melgrati led the Wildcats in scoring at the event with her first career top-10 finish at 5-over par. She and the rest of her teammates made the most of their day on the front nine as they sank six of their eight birdies on Sunday before the turn.
“Staying in fourth to finish the tournament is a testament to our continued resiliency throughout our week in Florida,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “We overcame some adversity on our first day and played steady golf to be a lot of teams in the field. I feel good about the lessons we can take away from this tournament and continue our development as a team.”
Melgrati, who carded rounds of 74, 72 and 75, went on to finish tied for seventh in par-5 scoring for the tournament. The freshman tallied a total of five birdies and an eagle to crack the top ten of the leaderboards after five consecutive finishes in the top 15.
Junior Gile Bite Starkute celebrated her birthday on Sunday and carded a final round of 75 as well to finish the event in a tie for 18th at 7-over. Freshman Lilas Pinthier shot Arizona’s lowest final round with a 74, which also put her in the top 20 of the player leaderboards.
Arizona will next compete at the Northrop Grumman Challenge, beginning on Friday, March 1 as they return to California for the second time in less than a month.
