Buffs 11th At Juli Inkster Collegiate

FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Colorado golf team record a 14-stroke improvement on Monday from the first to the second round and is currently 11^th at the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate.  
 
The Buffaloes shot a 17-over 305 during the first 18 holes, which had them 12^th overall. But the second round saw the Buffaloes improve to shoot a 3-over 291, their fifth-best round of the year. Colorado (596) is only three strokes behind 10^th-place UC Davis (593) and just five strokes back from ninth-place Oregon State (591).
 
San Jose State, one of the two tournament hosts, is in the team lead. The Spartans fired a 12-under during the two rounds (281-283—564) and have a 14-stroke lead over Stanford (578). San Francisco, the other co-host, is currently third (579).
 
Hailey Schalk played the steadiest round for the Buffs at the par 72, 6,157-yard Meadow Club course. She carded an even round through the first round and recorded a 1-over in her second round. Schalk started on the back nine, teeing off from the 10^th hole, and was 2-over as she was about to start the front nine. She made par on the first five holes and then sank a birdie before recording another par. A bogey put her back at 2-over but she finished the round with her first eagle of the season on the last hole to draw even.
 
Her second round saw her record five birdies, two on the back nine and three on the front, and she also made seven pars, but Schalk also carded six bogeys to put her at 1 over for the round. She is tied for 17^th heading into the last round with a team-best 145.  
 
Lauren Gooding also had a good day, carding rounds of 75 and 74 to finish tied for 30^th (149). She recorded three birdies and made 10 pars in her first round, but also shot four bogeys and had one double-bogey to finish 3-over.
 
Her second round was even better. She started with a birdie on the 11^th hole but a bogey on the next hole put her back at even. She made par on the following seven holes before recording another bogey, this time on the second hole. After making another par, she carded her third bogey of the round, putting her at 2-over. Gooding made par on the next three holes before she sank a birdie on No. 8 and made par on No. 9. She was 1-over with one hole remaining and finished with her fourth bogey to put her at 2-over in the round.
 
Diane Baillieux had an off first round, finishing with an 83. She did a great job of regrouping and shaved 14 strokes off her first round, finishing the second round with a 3-under. She is tied for 43^rd (152).
 
Like Schalk, Baillieux started on the 10^th tee. She started her second round with back-to-back bogeys and then made par on No. 12. After that, she was able to record birdies on two of the following three holes. Baillieux was able to bring her score to even by the time she went to the front nine and from there, she made par on six of the nine holes; the other three holes she made birdies on, to finish at 3-under for the round.
 
Natalie Vo ended her day tied for 50^th. She shot a 75 in the first round with two birdies and 11 pars and followed it up with a 79 in the second with one birdie and 11 pars.
 
Malak Bouraeda carded rounds of 83 and 75 to finish tied for 65^th. In the two rounds, she recorded three birdies and made 19 pars.
 
Playing as an individual, Issy Simpson finished the day with a 156. She shot a 78 in the first round with three birdies and eight pars and in the second round, she scored a 77. Simpson is tied for 54^th overall.

“The second round was better for us,” Colorado coach Anne Kelly said. “Diane made a really nice come back. Unfortunately Lauren signed for a score two shots higher than what she actually shot, so we had to count that score [in the second round].

 

“Hailey really played solid golf overall today. The team is showing signs of improvement. This is a great golf course that requires lots of thought and concentration.”

 

Washington’s Camille Boyd leads the field with a 7-under 137. She recorded rounds of 67 and 70 and has a one-stroke advantage over a pair of San Francisco golfers, Hannah Zeman and Riana Mission, who are tied for second with a 138.

 

The final round will start Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. PT with a shotgun start.
