If the conclusion of Sunday’s action is even half as good as Saturday at TPC Sawgrass, we’re in for a treat as the 2022 Players Championship continues to find its footing. Saturday was insane as players completed Round 1 and some of Round 2 in winds as strong as 30-40 miles per hour. And while the winds are not as drastic (10-25 mph), the day started with lower temperatures.
With the first 36 holes finally, officially completed, Sam Burns and Tom Hoge top the leaderboard at 7 under, one stroke ahead of Harold Varner III and Erik van Rooyen and two in front of Tommy Fleetwood, who was on top for most of the first three days of The Players. A couple big names like Bubba Watson and Justin Thomas, who had two of the best second-round efforts on Saturday, sit four stokes back of the leaders as they are atop a large group at T16.
Round 3 will begin Sunday after the cut is officially made. It will spill into Monday morning before (hopefully!) the entire tournament finishes up Monday evening just before sunset.
