IRVING, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis junior Adrian Boitan has earned his second Big 12 Player of the Week honor of the season, the Conference announced Tuesday.
The No. 42-ranked Boitan, a native of Constanta, Romania, earned the award after going undefeated in the two matches against Arizona State and No. 18 Arizona.
Boitan had two ranked singles wins, over No. 28 Murphy Cassone of the Sun Devils and No. 80 Jonas Ziverts of the Wildcats, both on court one. With the wins, Boitan is now 4-1 against ranked opponents, perfect at 12-0 on the spring season and 59-16 in singles for his career. He has played on the top court all season for BU.
On the doubles court, he and partner Tadeas Paroulek won 6-4 over Arizona State’s pair and went unfinished against Arizona’s duo, with play stopping with the Bears up at 5-4. Boitan and Paroulek are now 7-2 on court three and 8-2 on the season, while Boitan is 9-3 in doubles for the spring.
Boitan joined the Baylor team to play the two matches in Arizona after representing Romania in a Davis Cup qualifier the previous weekend in Spain.
The No.5-ranked Bears won both the Arizona State and Arizona matches, with Boitan helping Baylor hand No. 18 Arizona its first home loss since April of 2019. The Bears went undefeated on their 11-day, three-match road trip and is now 17-1 on the season.
Boitan earned his first accolade of the season on February 15 after going 3-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles against then-No. 9 Texas, Tulsa and No. 7 Virginia.
