Bobby Nichols Final Results (PDF)
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Marshall men’s golf junior Tyler Jones finished in the top five for the second-consecutive tournament to lead the Herd through the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Jones tied for third.
The Thundering Herd came in sixth out of 16 teams.
“Tyler had another incredible week,” Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. “He played so well and finished just one stroke away from winning. I really think he is going to get his first collegiate win soon. As a team, we played pretty well this week, but we have to make some improvements. Looking forward to getting some practice in before we leave for Pawley’s Island.”
Jones came in second at the Sea Palms Invitational, March 4-5, using a 4-under 67 in the third round to finish as the runner-up. During the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, Jones shot a 4-under 68 in both rounds and finished one stroke behind the leaders, Elliot MacGregor of Carson-Newman and Lane Wallace of Oral Roberts. MacGregor won the event after a playoff.
Jones shot par or better on 34-of-36 holes and totaled 10 birdies.
Junior Christian Boyd moved up seven places on the leaderboard after shooting a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. Boyd recorded four total birdies including three on the back-nine. Fifth-year senior Noah Mullens had three birdies while redshirt freshman Brett Montgomery and freshman Ryan Bilby had two each. Senior Isaac Prine, playing as an individual, moved up six places on the leaderboard after scoring an even-par 72. Prine recorded four birdies in the final round.
Carson-Newman captured the team title with a 12-stroke lead over Oral Roberts.
