TUCSON, Ariz. — The No. 13 Texas Men’s Golf team recorded a 16-under-par 272 on Saturday to move up four spots and finish in second place in the Arizona N.I.T. at OMNI Tucson National (Catalina Course). Senior Parker Coody carded a career-best 18-hole score of 8-under 64 in Saturday’s final round to pace the Longhorns.
Texas, which entered the final round in a tie for fifth, completed the tournament with a 54-hole score of 32-under-par 832 (280-280-272). No. 3 Oklahoma State captured the team title with a three-round total of 53-under-par 811 (266-269-276). The Longhorns placed ahead of No. 7 Pepperdine in third at 28-under-par 836 and No. 1 Oklahoma in fourth at 27-under-par 837.
The 15-team field at the Arizona N.I.T. featured seven squads that are ranked in the Top 25 of the latest Division I Bushnell Golfweek Coaches poll (March 11).
Senior Cole Hammer led the Longhorns with a tie for fifth in the individual standings at 11-under-par 205 (68-67-205), while junior Travis Vick tied for 11th at 8-under-par 208 (70-69-69).
Parker Coody, who began Saturday’s final round in a tie for 61st place, used his 64 to jump into a tie for 16th at 6-under-par 210 (72-74-64). His 64 tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history, and his score of 8-under-par tied for the second-lowest 18-hole round vs. par in program history.
Oklahoma State’s Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra claimed individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 20-under-par 196 (65-67-64). Christian Banke of Arizona finished second at 15-under-par 201 (67-67-67).
Texas returns to the course when it travels to compete in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational on April 2-3 (Saturday-Sunday) in August, Ga.
The Lineup
- Senior Parker Coody fired a career-best 8-under 64 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 16th in the individual standings with a three-round total of 6-under-par 210 (72-74-64). His previous collegiate-best 18-hole score was a 66 during his freshman season in 2018-19. Coody posted an eagle on the par-five second hole and followed with birdies on 3 and 5 before recording his lone bogey of the day on 6. He responded with a birdie on 7 and then added four birdies on the back nine (10, 11, 13 and 15) to finish at 8-under on the day.
- Coody’s 64 tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history. Four Longhorns have posted a 63, including Gavin Hall (2016-17), Brandon Stone (2012-13), David Gossett (1999-2000) and Justin Leonard (1993-94). The 64 also tied for the second-lowest round vs. par in school history. Hall, Stone, Gossett and Leonard also posted 9-under-par scores of 63.
- Senior Cole Hammer fired a 2-under 70 on Saturday to tie for fifth at 11-under-par 205 (68-67-70). Hammer registered four birdies against a pair of bogeys in his final round.
- Junior Travis Vick carded a 3-under 69 in his final round to tie for 11th at 8-under-par 208 (70-69-69). Vick tallied three birdies without a bogey during Saturday’s round.
- Junior Mason Nome posted a 1-over 73 in Saturday’s final round, highlighted by a hole-in-one on 12, to tie for 34th at 3-under-par 213 (70-70-73).
- Freshman Alejandro Gonzalez fired a 3-under 69 in his final round to tie for 53rd at 1-over-par 217 (74-74-69). Gonzalez tallied five birdies (1, 2, 4, 6 and 8) against one bogey (7) en route to a 4-under 32 on his front nine. He moved to 5-under with a birdie on 10 before back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17 completed his day at 3-under.
