CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Kelly Walsh and Natrona County’s boys and girls soccer teams met on the pitch at Kelly Walsh High School on Tuesday. It was frigid weather conditions in the Oil City, but the players did not seem bothered with civic pride on the line.
In the girls’ game, the Fillies got on the scoreboard first with Brooke Travers scoring off a rebounded Katelynn Campbell shot.
The next goal did not come until less than 13 minutes left in regulation. Kelly Walsh knotted the score at 1-1 with Abigail Miller putting home a goal after a corner kick.
The two teams actually needed overtime in order to determine a winner, but neither team could push themselves ahead for good in the extra 20 minutes either.
Natrona County’s Saige Gustafson and Kelly Walsh’s Bethany Strand both added goals during overtime, which forced the game to end in a 2-2 draw.
In the boys’ game, Hayden Hollinger used some fancy footwork to get the Trojans on the board right away. It was truly a brilliant goal to get the scoring started.
Parker O’Neill, who dropped the ball off to Hollinger before his run for goal, added another goal for the Trojans shortly before the end of the first half. In the second half, Kelly Walsh added three more, and they earned a 5-0 victory over the Mustangs.
Both schools will host Evanston later this week. Natrona County will play the Devils on Thursday, and Kelly Walsh will get their crack at them on Friday.
