After a big win over NC State (previous No. 2) this past Sunday, the North Carolina Tar Heels are once again atop the rankings coming in at No. 1 in the Division I Women’s ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point for Apr. 6.
Now 21-0 on the season, the Tar Heels faced one of their toughest tests of the season last weekend, escaping Raleigh with a 4-3 win, their 26th straight over the Wolfpack.
In addition to Team Rankings, both Singles and Doubles Rankings were also released.
The doubles rankings see Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty (19-5) remain in the top spot, while Alle Sanford and Reilly Tran check in at No. 52 this week with a 15-3 overall record, including 8-0 in duals.
Reigning ACC Player of the Week Cameron Morra jumps back into the top 10 of the singles rankings at No. 8 after notching a pair of nationally-ranked wins last week. Morra is 18-8 overall in her senior season and 8-2 against the ACC.
Junior Elizabeth Scotty checks in at No. 18 this week. The Annapolis, Maryland, product won the clinching point over the Wolfpack to improve her record to 16-2 this spring and 4-1 in the league.
Sophomores Reilly Tran and Fiona Crawley sit No. 24 and No. 37, respectively. Tran owns a 24-4 overall mark and 6-2 in the conference, while Crawley leads the country with 36 wins – five more than any other player – and is a perfect 10-0 against the ACC.
Freshman Carson Tanguilig is No. 44 and continues to impress in her rookie campaign by coming up with a win over NC State last week. The Alpharetta, Georgia, native is 24-5 overall and 6-2.
With just three regular-season matches remaining before the ACC Championship, the Tar Heels are in prime position to enter the tournament as the top seed. In fact, a win on Friday over Clemson would guarantee a share of the regular-season ACC title for the fourth year in a row and the 11th time in the last 13 seasons.
