It’s just a scrimmage, but it’s still a pretty big deal.
The Orange and White Game, the climax to spring football at Clemson, offers very healthy Tigers player a chance to play in front of family, friends and fans — crowd expected to exceed 50,000 — at Memorial Stadium.
It also gives those Tigers a chance to make a final impression on their coaches until camp begins in August.
There are plenty of storylines about this spring, but probably none with greater fan interest than the quarterback situation. Fans will get a fresh glimpse at returning starter D.J. Uiagalelei and a first one at freshman Cade Klubnik.
Uiagalelei’s struggles were well-chronicled during the 2021 season, when Clemson finished with a disappointing — yes, disappointing — 10-3 record and missed the College Football Playoffs for the first time in six seasons. Though Uiagalelei endured injuries and inconsistent play from the line and receivers, Tiger Nation directed most of its criticism at him. Klubnik, rated the nation’s No. 1 quarterback prospect by many recruiting analysts, enrolled early and has acquitted himself well in the spring, though coaches say Uiagalelei has maintained his grip on the starting position.

2:14 p.m. | Orange, Uiagalelei finally break through in Clemson football spring game
