On Tuesday, the Newnan High School Boys Varsity Tennis won their first-round match of the 7A GHSA State tennis tournament.
The team swept South Gwinnett 5-0 at home, advancing them to the next round.
At singles were Grant Robertson, Reese Robertson, and Robert Ward. Playing doubles were Jaret Webb and Reed Miller and Logan Crowe and Wyatt Welden.
On the preparation for round two, Welden shared, “Getting ready to play in the next round of state is a little nerve-wracking, but practice is always fun and competitive, so I feel like we will be ready for any challenge come Tuesday.”
Welden also added, “I will continue to play doubles with my partner, Logan Crowe. I think doubles is a great way to play the game; working with a teammate and building a strong synergy adds a fun and unique component to the game.”
When asked about the team, he replied, “I cannot speak for my fellow teammates, but I don’t think Tuesday can get here fast enough. The Newnan Tennis team has a strong chance of winning state, and I think with the coaching, the support of the parents, and the rest of the school, the tennis team has no chance of losing.”
The Cougars, led by Coach Brown, will be back in action versus Peachtree Ridge in the second round of tournament play on Tuesday, April 26 at 4 pm at Newnan High School.
