The Chiefs have a choice to make in regard to the 2022 NFL Draft — and the capital needed to feel comfortable with whatever the team ends up doing.
Kansas City is tied with the Jaguars for the most picks of the 2022 NFL Draft, with 12 total picks. That includes two first-, second-, third- and fourth-round selections and four seventh-round picks. The decision the Chiefs must face is whether to use all that capital to draft at their current positions (including the 29th and 30th overall picks) or use it to trade up in the draft.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach and coach Andy Reid will have to be a part of that decision-making process, one that likely hinges on whether a prospect they value enough somehow drops lower than their draft projection. Regardless, this team is in mostly good shape, having made at least the AFC Championship Game in each of the last four seasons.
To that end, the Chiefs may decide to use all — or most — of their picks to bolster what is already a team that can challenge for a Super Bowl. But don’t be surprised if Kansas City falls in love with a player to the point of trading up to draft them.
With that, The Sporting News breaks down the Chiefs’ 2022 NFL Draft:

Chiefs NFL Draft needs
- Defensive end: Arguably the Chiefs’ biggest need is at defensive end. The team retained veteran Frank Clark by restructuring his contract, but there’s not an obvious, every-down starter on the roster outside of him. Melvin Ingram is still in free agency, but it’s not certain whether he’ll re-sign with Kansas City or move on to another team. There should be quality players at this position with the No. 29 and 30 picks.
- Cornerback: Kansas City still has L’Jarius Sneed and Rashad Fenton on the roster, but lost Charvarius Ward in free agency to the 49ers. This is a position that could perhaps be addressed in later rounds.
- Wide receiver: The biggest question mark heading into the draft is when — not if — Kansas City will draft a receiver to offset the loss of Tyreek Hill, whom the Chiefs traded to the Dolphins in return for a bevy of draft picks. The top receivers in this draft (Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jameson Williams and Drake London) should be off the board long before the Chiefs pick at 29. Would they take a first-round risk on Jahan Dotson or Treylon Burks to bolster a receivers room that now includes JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling?
