DULUTH — Duluth FC opened the home portion of its National Premier Soccer League North Conference slate with a bang, shutting out the defending division champions Minneapolis City 2-0 on Saturday at Public Schools Stadium.
Felipe Oliveira put the BlueGreens in front early with a ninth-minute goal, and the hosts doubled their lead on 50 minutes on a goal from Sam Thornton.
That proved enough to secure three points in the standings and a win over the Crows, who went 11-1 to win the division crown last season.
Duluth FC (2-0-0) will host the Minnesota TwinStars on Wednesday night, again at PSS.
