Windy weather set the stage in Rugby on Wednesday as the local high school boys hit the links to compete in the Class B-Region 4 golf tournament.
Looking to secure a spot among the best golf programs this season, the eighteen Region 4 boys’ teams would be whittled down to just three and punch their tickets to the next round where they will compete in the upcoming state tournament. In addition to the top three teams in the region earning an automatic state tournament berth, the top ten individual players in the regional tournament qualify to challenge for the state championship and are named to the Class B-Region 4 All-Region Team.
Taking first place and winning by a commanding fifteen strokes was Bottineau, who finished the day with a cumulative team score of +86. Coming in at +101 and placing second was Our Redeemer’s Christian School (ORCS). Rounding out the top three teams to earn an automatic bid to the state tournament was Glenburn, coming in thirteen strokes behind ORCS and ending the day at +114.
Finishing out the top nine schools, but failing to qualify for state, were: Northern Lights (+124), Rugby (+125), Harvey/Wells (+127), Westhope (+139), Bishop Ryan (+151), and Nedrose (+189).
Leading the way with three players to finish in the top ten Wednesday and earn a spot on the Class B-Region 4 All-Region Team was Bottineau. Representing Bottineau are sophomore Max Palmer (+14), senior Nate Olson (+23), and sophomore Nick Barbot (+24).
Our Redeemer’s and Glenburn will each have two golfers on the All-Region Team that will vie for the state championship crown. Region 4 individual tournament champion senior Zach Hendrickson (+11) and eighth grader Payten Lindbo (+23) will represent ORCS, while junior Jordan Anderson (+14) and senior Luke Anderson (+18) represent Glenburn.
Filling out the rest of the All-Region Team roster are freshman Jett Lundeen (+23) for Bishop Ryan, senior Kutter Belgrade (+23) for Northern Lights, and senior Trenton Azure (+24) for Dunseith.
The 2022 NDHSAA Class B Boys Golf State Tournament will be held at Oxbow Country Club on May 31 and June 1 in Oxbow, North Dakota.
