David Ford, who tied for fifth place in the individual standings and led the University of North Carolina to the quarterfinals of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, is one of five players on the Golf Coaches Association of America’s All-Freshman team.
The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native also earned All-America honors by virtue of his fifth-place performance at NCAAs. He was previously recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year and a member of the All-ACC and All-PING East Region teams.
Ford averaged 70.54 strokes over 37 rounds, the fourth-lowest stroke average in UNC history and second lowest ever by a Tar Heel freshman. He won both his semifinal match in the ACC Championship and quarterfinal match in the NCAA Championship.
He led the Tar Heels in rounds under par (23) and was second in cumulative score to par (28 under in 12 tournaments). Ford was runner-up at the Williams Cup at Eagle Point in Wilmington, one of six top-10 finishes in a dozen starts. He placed in the top 20 nine times.
