The Memorial took on an interesting shape on Saturday as Billy Horschel raced out in front in Round 3 with a host of top names chasing him into the final round. Though this is not a golf course that screams Horschel’s name, he’s nonetheless thriving with a flawless all-around game but also a tee-to-green performance that is the best in the field.
Still, if he slips at all there are plenty of big-time stars there to clean up the mess. Cameron Smith is in the mix. So are Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy, Daniel Berger and Joaquin Niemann. Perhaps most intriguing are the two rookies who are holding on strong to their positions near the top of the leaderboard. Davis Riley and Cameron Young both played well enough in Round 3 to earn an afternoon tee time Sunday and will both be vying for the biggest wins of their careers as well as a coveted handshake from host Jack Nicklaus.
