Stephen Curry did a lot of great things in the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 NBA Finals win against the Boston Celtics. However, according to former player and head coach Sam Mitchell, there are two things that made him impossible to stop: his physical and mental toughness.
Curry basically singlehandedly carried the Warriors in the first four games of the NBA Finals series, allowing them to go 2-2 despite the defense of the Celtics on him. While Games 5 and 6 saw the Dubs put on a more collective effort, there was no doubt Steph was at the focal point of everything they were doing.
For Mitchell, who won NBA Coach of the year in 2007, Curry made life hard for the Celtics’ defense and even pushed Marcus Smart to “quit.”
“Steph Curry, to me, was the toughest player on the floor mentally and physically. He kicked Marcus Smart mentally, physically and he made him quit,” Mitchell explained before detailing a specific play that showed Curry’s toughness, per SiriusXM NBA Radio.
Sam Mitchell couldn’t have said it any better. Stephen Curry was the Finals MVP for a reason, and he made sure there was no doubt about that with his performance throughout.
Sure he did have a poor shooting performance in Game 5, but he still found a way to impact the game for the Warriors in a variety of ways. And in Game 6, he didn’t give the Celtics a chance at all to even stage a comeback.
Curry showed everyone he belongs at the top of the list of the NBA’s greatest, and with that, his legacy will never be questioned once again.
