As he urgently strives to restore his form, Out-of-form Virat Kohli is allegedly poised to be a member of India’s team for the forthcoming trip to Zimbabwe. Next month, India will visit Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series.
For the forthcoming ODI and T20I series against West Indies, Kohli has been rested. He also missed the home T20I series against South Africa last month due to rest.
Virat Kohli Struggling To Score Big
The former captain of India battled throughout his challenging trip to England earlier this month. He only managed to score 11 and 20 in the rescheduled Test, which India lost.
His shape remained the same in the limited-overs format as well. With scores of 1 and 11 in the T20Is, Kohli also appeared to be a pale imitation of his regular self. In the subsequent ODI series, he was only able to score 16 and 17 runs.
The selectors have given Virat Kohli the much-needed break to regroup because his form is not on his side. In the forthcoming ODI and T20I matches against West Indies, Kohli will not play. The Men in Blue will take on the Caribbean team in three ODIs and five T20Is.
Virat Kohli To Play Against Zimbabwe
The right-handed batter was generally anticipated to play until the Asia Cup next month, but the selection committee allegedly has different plans. The national selectors want Kohli to participate in the ODI series against Zimbabwe to come back to form, according to Insidesports
It will be Kohli’s first outing against Zimbabwe since 2015 if he is chosen for the Zimbabwe trip. A backup team will likely be announced by the selectors for the tour.
“Hopefully, the break allows him to rejuvenate mentally and get his form back. But without any competitive cricket, it will be difficult and that is why we want him to play against Zimbabwe.
“It’s his preferred format and will help him regain his form before the Asia Cup. We will take a final decision close to the selection,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.
Five days prior to the commencement of the Asia Cup 2022 in Sri Lanka, the ODI series against Zimbabwe will begin on August 18 and conclude on August 22.
