With only six races left in the NASCAR Cup Series regular season, the time is now for racers on the bubble to start taking risks in the hopes of capturing the vaunted checkered flag.
And Pocono Raceway might just be the place where an aggressive strategy pays off.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch took the checkered flag at the last Cup Series race held at Pocono, the Explore the Pocono Mountains 350. He did that amid rather trying circumstances, overcoming a broken shifter to win the race while stuck in fourth gear.
There’s a little magic on the Tricky Triangle. And for racers like Kevin Harvick, Aric Almirola and Erik Jones — all firmly on the outside looking in — a little imposing driving could go a long way to securing a spot in the Cup Series playoffs.
