Georgia adds three-star wide receiver to 2023 class
Georgia has flipped three-star receiver Yazeed Haynes, who decommitted from home-state Penn State earlier in the week. Haynes, who is from Fort Washington, Penn., is a three-star and at the moment becomes the lowest-ranked non-kicker in Georgia’s upcoming class. (He’s rated No. 637, and Georgia has 18 commitments, including a kicker.)
But the Bulldogs have prioritized speed at receiver, and the defending national champions see room for Haynes to develop.

Another huge win for Nick Saban
For a while, it seemed as though Downs was an Ohio State lean. He was an integral piece on Ohio State’s remaining board, so the fact that Nick Saban was able to change the tide — pun intended — so quickly is just yet another example of why he’s the best closer in the game.
The Tide’s class got off to a slow start this cycle, but Alabama is still, well, Alabama. Downs is now the third five-star prospect and the seventh top-100 player in the Tide’s class. Given Alabama has 15 commitments, you can see this is well on the way to being a class that can compete for the recruiting crown.

Mario Cristobal: The Closer
Bryant, the No. 61 overall player and the No. 4 linebacker in the 2023 class, was initially scheduled to announce his commitment earlier this week. When he pushed it back, there was some noise that maybe Florida had gained some momentum in this big-time in-state battle. Mario Cristobal, who has been on as hot of a recruiting tear as anyone in college football this past month, closed again.
These types of recruitments are going to be regular for Florida and Miami moving forward, and who gets the best of them will be a huge determining factor as to which coach is more successful in their respective rebuilds — Cristobal or Billy Napier. Miami’s class now ranks No. 7 nationally and has seven prospects who rank in the top 125 nationally.

Oklahoma building an elite recruiting class
Brent Venables was in his early 40s, a young defensive coordinator at Oklahoma, when he showed up at Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas, on a spring day in 2011.
“College recruiters come, and they’ll show up and they’re gone. They might be there 10 minutes,” said Rodney Webb, Horn’s head football coach at the time. “But I remember coach Venables showed up and stayed the entire spring practice. It was like, two hours.
