Riley Herbst hopes his consistency and confidence lead to winning a race — and soon.
The driver of the No. 98 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing has finished in the top 10 13 times in 20 NASCAR Xfinity Series races this season, but he’s yet to win.
The next opportunity for the Las Vegas native comes in the New Holland 250 at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday.
“I’m not huge on momentum, but I’m very huge on confidence,” Herbst said. “I think our team has a lot of confidence in each other.
“We’re confident we can get the job done every week.”
Herbst finished in the top 10 in four of the last six races.
“We’re just trying to do all the small things right,” he said. “That usually leads to good results.
“We’re encouraged by them, but we always want more and we’re really searching for victory lane.”
Herbst finished seventh at the 2-mile MIS oval last year, his first with Stewart-Haas.
“Michigan is a very fast high-banked track,” Herbst said.
Chevy drivers have won the last three Xfinity races at Michigan.
That includes AJ Allmendinger, the points leader in 2022 who won at MIS in 2021.
Herbst is in ninth place in the driver standings. He’s 10th in the projected playoff standings. Twelve drivers make the postseason.
Qualifying starts at 9:35 a.m. Saturday after a 30-minute practice. The race begins at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised on USA.
