EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men’s soccer kicked off 2022 action with a 3-0 exhibition win over Lawrence Tech on Thursday night at DeMartin Stadium.
Freshman forward Jonathan Stout got the scoring starting in the second minute off a deflection with the assist from redshirt-senior defender Will Perkins.
The Spartans continued pressure the rest of the first half, before getting their second goal of the night in the dying embers of the first half. Senior midfielder Conner George headed in a corner kick from redshirt-junior midfielder Kellan Landefeld with just a few ticks left on the clock for a 2-0 MSU intermission lead.
Michigan State tacked on its third goal in the 64th minute. Sophomore forward Efosa Emovon slotted home a pass from junior midfielder Jacob Cromer and just past the diving LTU keeper with a kiss off the right post and into the net for a 3-0 Spartan advantage, and that score held up the rest of the evening for the final score.
MSU ended with a 19-6 shots advantage, with a 10-1 shots on goal edge, as LTU mounted a late push, but was turned away by the Michigan State defense, with Lawrence Tech’s most offensive pressure coming in the 83rd minute with George making a sliding team save to keep the clean sheet.
The Spartans also had a 12-3 corner kicks advantage over the Blue Devils.
