Punjab Kings (PBKS) is likely set to part ways with their head coach, Anil Kumble, as they have decided not to renew the former Indian leg-spinner’s contract ahead of next season, as per reports.
The franchise is also looking to rope in the likes of Eoin Morgan or Trevor Bayliss to replace Kumble. Morgan retired from international cricket last month while Bayliss has coached in the IPL before.
“The Mohali team has apparently decided not to renew Anil Kumble’s three-year contract, which ends this September. They are already in search of candidates.”
“It is learned that their representatives have approached the likes of Eoin Morgan, Trevor Bayliss and one former India coach. Eventually one of them or none of them may get the posting. A Punjab Kings official said they will decide in a week’s time,” a source was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.
Kumble’s time with PBKS didn’t see much success, with the team winning 19 matches out of the 42 they played. They failed to make the playoffs in any of the editions that Kumble has been the head coach.
Although the franchise picked up explosive players for the squad including the likes of Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone, they couldn’t achieve much and ended up in the sixth spot with 7 wins in 14 matches.
