Verlander became MLB’s first 16-game winner by throwing six no-hit innings, striking out 10 batters against no walks, and Alex Bregman kept his second-half surge alive by going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer to lead the Astros to a 4-2 win over the Twins.
Verlander lowered his ERA to 1.87 by retiring 18 of the 19 batters he faced, with Nick Gordon reaching on a strikeout-wild pitch in the second. He was replaced after 91 pitches by Ryne Stanek, who gave up a leadoff single to Correa to start the seventh to break up Houston’s no-hit bid. Bregman smacked his 19th homer of the season in the bottom of the seventh to make it 4-0.
