Bar patrons will have the opportunity to watch NFL Thursday night football games. Amazon and DirecTV have entered into a multi-year agreement to offer Prime Video’s exclusive Thursday Night Football lineup to NFL fans visiting more than 300,000 sports bars, restaurants, hotel lounges, casinos and sports books, retail shops and services and many other venues nationwide.
DirecTV will now deliver live TNF action as well as extensive pregame, halftime and postgame coverage.
The first TNF game available to commercial accounts through DirecTV is the final NFL preseason matchup on Thursday between the San Francisco 49ers at the Houston Texans. The agreement also includes the entire 15-game schedule of regular season Thursday Night Football games, starting Sept. 15 when the Los Angeles Chargers visit the defending AFC West champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Amazon Prime will remain the only way to watch TNF from home, part of the 11-year, $1 billion per year deal that commences with this Thursday’s game.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Sept. 22 versus the Cleveland Browns will be televised on WPXI-TV, Pittsburgh, although that station is not available in the Altoona area.
The game can be viewed at Black and Gold Tavern, 2927 Sixth Ave.
“I have Amazon Prime, we will have the Thursday night games. The Steelers games are the only ones we get big crowds for, but the games will be available,” owner Lori Benton said.
Steve Horton, owner of Cobrh’s Lounge, 5801 Sixth Ave., said he has had DirecTV and will be doing what is necessary to carry the Thursday night games.
