23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams said choosing tennis was the best possible choice and she absolutely loved her tennis journey. Williams, who is set to turn 41 next month, is ending her pro tennis career after this year’s US Open.
Williams turned pro in 1995 and since then has become not only one of the greatest players in tennis history, but one of the greatest players in all sports history. After leaving a major mark in tennis history, Williams is looking forward to the next chapter of her life.
“Tennis was chosen for me and I loved that choice and I couldn’t have made a better choice, right? So I was really happy that that happened,” Williams said the Archetypes podcast, via Sportskeeda. “But now, for the first time in my entire life, I’m choosing to do something.
And it’s hard because it’s like. It’s something I’ve actually never done. I’ve always done something different, and I’ve always enjoyed it so much. But I’m making a different choice and one, you know, to stop doing what I love and to have, hopefully, have more kids and to, and to focus on other things and to do more with, you know, other stuff that I want to do.”
Williams to focus on her family, business
In 2017, Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian welcomed their first child, Olympia. In a piece for Vogue, Williams revealed that she and her husband are hoping to welcome a second child.
In retirement, Williams also plans to focus on business. But Williams has one more tournament to play before her pro career ends. At the US Open, Williams will certainly receive lots of support from the New York crowd. Williams has done a lot for American tennis and she will definitely have the whole crowd standing behind her when she takes out onto the court for her US Open first round match.
