Culver-Stockton College Athletic Director Pat Atwell has announced Nic Powers as the next head men’s soccer coach.
Powers, a native of Lake St. Louis, Mo., becomes the eighth head coach in Culver-Stockton College men’s soccer history.
“We are very excited to name Nic Powers as our men’s soccer coach,” said Atwell “Nic played and coached at NAIA power Columbia College, so he has firsthand knowledge of what a highly competitive NAIA program looks like. He also has an outstanding connection in the St Louis and Midwest region for recruiting which will benefit him greatly in attracting students to Culver-Stockton.
“Nic is tied into the club soccer community in St Louis which is a feeder system for colleges across the region. We think he will be a perfect fit for our program and look forward to seeing his teams compete in the ultra-competitive Heart of America Athletic Conference.”
Powers comes to Culver-Stockton after serving as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s programs at his alma mater, Columbia College, for the last four years.
During Powers’ time at Columbia, the Cougars men’s program compiled a 70-12-4 overall record and reached the NAIA Final Four in 2019, 2020 and 2021. The women’s program recorded a 66-16-3 overall record and made four appearances at the NAIA national tournament.
Powers has also served at the director of operations for the Saint Louis Maritsa Soccer Club, a men’s semi-pro soccer club that plays in the United Premier Soccer League.
“I would like to thank Pat Atwell, Dr. Douglas Palmer and the search committee for their trust in me to lead the men’s soccer program,” said Powers. ” This is a dream come true, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to give back to this great institution.
“From the moment I stepped on campus, it was clear that Culver-Stockton College was a place that has the support to build something special. I look forward to working with everyone at Culver-Stockton College to build a culture of excellence in the classroom, on the field and in the community.”
During his playing career, Powers helped Columbia to the NAIA National Tournament two times, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2015. The Cougars also won the America Midwest Conference regular season title in 2015 and the AMC Tournament title in 2016.
Powers earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Columbia in 2017, and a master’s of business administration degree from Columbia in 2020.
