SEATTLE – The No. 4 Washington men’s soccer team welcomes Michigan State on Friday night at Husky Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Huskies are undefeated heading into the contest with a 4-0-1 record on the season with a 3-0-1 mark at Husky Soccer Stadium.
UW-MICHIGAN STATE HISTORY
The Huskies lead the all-time series 1-0-1 against Michigan State. The last meeting came in 2019 when Washington went to East Lancing and came away with a 1-0 win. This is the first meeting between the teams in Seattle.
THE LAST TIME OUT
Washington remained undefeated following a 1-1 tie with Air Force on Sunday. Ilijah Paul registered his fifth goal of the season, while Chris Meyers had his fourth assist.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Michigan State is 2-3-1 on the season with a 0-1-1 mark on the road. The last time out, the Spartans had a 4-1 win over Chicago State at home. Jack Guggemos and Will Perkins lead the team with a pair of goals on the year, while Greyson Mercer has tallied two assists.
Jack Beck, Perkins and Mercer were all named to the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch list, while Michigan State was picked to finish sixth in the conference.
INDIVIDUAL RECOGNITION
After recording his first career hat trick in a 4-1 win over Utah Valley on Sept. 2, sophomore forward Ilijah Paul was named the TopDrawerSoccer National Player of the Week (Sept. 6) and United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week (Sept. 7). Paul was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week (Sept. 5) and was selected as Pac-12 Player of the Week.
BIG SECOND HALVES
The second half has been a game changer for the Huskies so far this season, with 10 of their 12 total goals coming in the last 45 minutes of action. Washington has limited other teams to just two total goals in four games.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
Since 1997, the Huskies have posted a 171-60-19 overall record at Husky Soccer Stadium, winning at least eight matches in 13 seasons including a 10-1-2 mark in 2013.
Last season, Washington set a single-game attendance record when it hosted Saint Louis in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament where the record crowd of 3,6629 saw the Huskies advance to the College Cup for the first time in program history.

With two games for the Huskies against the Spartans this weekend, UW Athletics has released a ticket deal where fans can get admission into Friday’s soccer match and Saturday’s football game for $60. Tickets are available for purchase here and end on Friday, Sept. 16 at 6:59 p.m.
CELEBRATING THE 1982 TEAM
At halftime, join the UW men’s soccer team in recognizing the 40th anniversary of the 1982 squad. The ’82 team is tied for the most wins in a single-season with last year’s College Cup Finals team at 18 wins.
