ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 20, 2022) — Orlando City SC midfielder César Araújo has been named to Major League Soccer’s 22 Under 22, presented by BODYARMOR, it was announced today.
The 21-year-old midfielder has made 30 starts in 34 appearances across all competitions for City, adding two goals in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinals to help push the Club onto the Final and eventually lift the Lions’ first trophy in the MLS era. Araújo currently ranks fifth in MLS in fouls won (68) and sixth in passing accuracy (90.73%) across the entire league.
In order to be eligible for this list, players must be born after October 10, 2000. The voting panel was made up by MLSsoccer.com staff, members of the MLS player department and external media. Voters were asked to rank their Top-22 players in order based on technical, tactical, physical and potential abilities.
Araújo joined the Lions ahead of the 2022 season from Montevideo Wanderers of Uruguay’s Liga Profesional de Primera División as a part of Major League Soccer’s U22 Initiative.
