Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) decision to play the Asia Cup 2023 at a neutral venue has raised a lot of eyebrows. Pakistan was awarded the hosting rights for the 2023 Asia Cup. Asia Cup 2023 is going to be played in 50 over format which would be a stepping stone for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
It looks like the fans of Pakistan have to wait a bit longer to see a tournament in Pakistan. Asia Cup 2022 proved to be a fascinating contest where there was cut-throat competition among all the teams. The India vs Pakistan rivalry got bigger than ever as there were some exciting battles.
PCB Hints Quitting ACC
A source close to PCB has said that a unilateral decision cannot be taken in a multi-nation tournament. Earlier, ACC President and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had made it clear that India won’t travel to Pakistan. “Neutral venue for Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan. I have decided that we will play at a neutral venue.” he added.
PCB in Deep Trouble
PCB has the hosting rights of ICC Champions Trophy 2025, if they lose the Asia Cup 2023 rights then there are chances that they may lose the marquee event. Pakistan has been quite successful in hosting South Africa, West Indies, Australia, and England. These tours have been quite encouraging for PCB.
PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja has made sure that cricket returns to Pakistan. Australian Cricket Team praised Pakistan for providing smooth security throughout the tour. If Pakistan Cricket Team decides to quit ACC then the World Cricket won’t witness one of the greatest rivalries.
