The 2022 NBA G League Draft will be on Saturday, October 22, starting at 12:00pm CST. The Sioux Falls Skyforce own two picks (sixth overall in the first round and 35th overall in the second round) in the draft this year. This piece highlights 10 former Skyforce draft picks in the G League era.
Frank Williams
2006 Draft • 3rd Round • 26th Overall
The third ever Sioux Falls Skyforce G League draft pick made an impact in the two seasons he was with the team (2006-07 and 2008-09). Williams ranks third all-time in three pointers made (239), three pointers attempted (687) and ninth in free throw percentage (84.9 percent).
In 44 starts as a rookie, he averaged 15.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Williams led the team in steals (1.78), minutes (34.7) points and assists. He was also named to the 2007 All-NBA G League Honorable Mention Team.
He played lethal as a one-two punch with Kasib Powell in 2008-09, where Williams averaged 17.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 47 games (43 starts).
Ronald Allen
2007 Draft • 6th Round • 79th Overall
Allen appeared in 16 games as a rookie in 2007-08 after making the team as a sixth round draft pick out of Cincinnati. He went on to play three more seasons in the NBA G League after his time with the Skyforce.
He has since returned to Sioux Falls and has joined Kasib Powell’s coaching staff ahead of the 2022-23 season. Both were teammates and roommates during the 2007-08 season.
Reggie Williams
2009 Draft • 3rd Round • 45th Overall
Williams went from an NBA G League draft pick to seven-year NBA veteran by the time it was all said and done.
In his lone season with the Skyforce, he averaged 26.4 points on 57.6 percent shooting (good for third all-time in Skyforce history), 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per 40.0 minutes a game. He scored 43 points three times in 2009-10, which is tied for fifth all-time in the organization’s history. Williams was also named to the 2009-10 All-NBA G League First Team, as well.
After earning an NBA Call-Up with the Golden State Warriors, Williams went on to average a career-high 15.2 points in 24 total games. He retired after the 2019-20 season after playing overseas in the Korean Basketball League.
Andrew Goudelock
2012 Draft • 1st Round • 2nd Overall
Andrew Goudelock played in just 14 games for the Skyforce in the 2012-13 season, but his impact was felt. In his 14 games, he led the team in scoring eight times, while averaging 20.3 points per game.
Before playing with the Force, Goudelock played 40 games for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he averaged 4.4 points in 10.5 minutes per game.
The Charleston alumnus has been playing overseas since 2013-14, where he most recently played in the Spanish ACB last season. Not to mention, he averaged 14.4 points per game.
DeAndre Liggins
2013 Draft • 1st Round • 7th Overall
A fan favorite from the 2015-16 season could be argued as the most impactful Skyforce draft pick in the NBA G League era.
Liggins spent parts of three seasons in Sioux Falls, with the first being in 2013-14. He started 42 games and averaged 14.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game. He played a key role in the championship run, where he averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 assists and 6.3 rebounds per 38.4 minutes a game. In 2018-19, Liggins would average 10.8 points, 5.7 assists and 4.4 rebounds per 31.6 minutes in 25 games played.
He is in the top-10 for multiple all-time playoff records for the Skyforce: steals (third with 27), assists (seventh with 75), free throw percentage (tenth with 82.6 percent). Liggins won NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year in 2013-14 and 2015-16.
The five-year NBA veteran most recently played for the London Lions in 2020-21 of the British BBL.
Jabril Trawick
2015 Draft • 1st Round • 14th Overall
Trawick played a reserve role on the 2015-16 NBA G League championship team, where he averaged 9.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per 20.6 minutes a game. He scored 11 points on 5-8 FGA in the clinching championship game against South Bay.
He would go on to return to the Force in 2016-17, where he averaged 12.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 37 games played.
Trawick most recently played overseas in the 2017-18 season in the Israel BSL.
Ike Nwamu
2016 Draft • 1st Round • 22nd Overall
Nwamu played two seasons for the Skyforce from 2016-2018. His best season was the latter, where he averaged 14.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per 29.7 minutes in 47 games.
He would play two more seasons in the G League before going overseas. Nwamu most recently played in the Israel BSL last season.
Trey Mourning
2019 Draft • 1st Round • 2nd Overall
In two seasons with the Skyforce, Mourning played a combined 64 games and averaged 5.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.4 assists per 12.2 minutes a game.
He posted a career-high 25 points on the opening weekend of the 2021-22 season against the Iowa Wolves on November 8.
Mourning most recently played for the Nelson Giants of the New Zealand NBL after the completion of the Skyforce season.
Brandon Knight
2021 Draft • 1st Round • 6th Overall
The 10-year NBA veteran earned two NBA Call-Ups with the Dallas Mavericks last season after being selected in the first round of the G League Draft.
Knight appeared in 22 games for the Skyforce last season, where he averaged 17.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per 32.0 minutes a game.
His play at the Winter Showcase earned Knight his first NBA Call-Up, where he scored in double figures in two-of-three appearances. At the conclusion of the G League season, he went on to play two games with Dallas as a part of his 10-day contract.
Mike Smith
2021 Draft • 2nd Round • 41st Overall
Smith was a crowd favorite at the Sanford Pentagon last season. The Michigan alumnus played in 43 games where he averaged 9.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per 26.3 minutes per game.
His 12 assists against the Salt Lake City Stars on January 8 a season ago were a team-high for the 2021-22 season.
Like Mourning, Smith went on to play in the New Zealand NBL after the conclusion of the Skyforce season. He currently is playing in the Polish EBL.
