The narrative leading up to Thursday night’s NFL Week 8 game in Tampa was all about the Buccaneers’ struggles, and that storyline won’t be going away anytime soon after a 27-22 home loss to the Ravens.
After coming out hot with 10 points in the first quarter, Tampa Bay’s offense regressed to what it has been all season and didn’t find a rhythm again until it was too late.

The Ravens’ offense was the polar opposite. Baltimore was outplayed early on but the offense started clicking just before halftime and turned yards into points once the second half hit. The Ravens scored 24 second-half points and were methodical down the stretch despite losing Mark Andrews, Rashod Bateman and, eventually, Gus Edwards to injuries.

For the second consecutive week, Baltimore grabbed a lead and held onto it, putting some early-season collapses in the rearview mirror. While injuries to key weapons will be a concern going forward, the Ravens will head into Week 9 leading the AFC North at 5-3.

The Buccaneers’ offense was already a concern, but the way the defense was worn down by the Ravens is an issue as well. Tampa Bay reportedly fears pass-rusher Shaquil Barrett suffered a torn Achilles in the loss, which would deal a major blow to the unit.

Now 3-5 and dealing with the worst eight-game start of Brady’s career, the Buccaneers will try to get back on track against the defending champion Rams in Week 9.

Ravens vs. Buccaneers live updates, highlights from ‘Thursday Night Football’
(All times Eastern)
11:22 p.m. FINAL — No drama on the onside kick. Isaiah Likely, the star of the night, recovers the kick to ice the game for the Ravens. Baltimore improves to 5-3 while the Buccaneers drop to 3-5 and will fall out of the NFC South lead for at least a week.
Ravens 27, Buccaneers 22
11:20 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Julio Jones forces his way into the end zone in his first game back, but Rachaad White is stuffed on the two-point attempt even after a penalty put Tampa at the one-yard line. Buccaneers still hoping for a miracle…
11:16 p.m. — Tampa isn’t giving up yet. Brady and the Bucs are in the red zone hoping for a touchdown followed by an onside kick.
11:11 p.m. — Officials are taking their time reviewing a pretty clear incompletion that was called a catch by Julio Jones on the field. Pass is ultimately ruled incomplete.
11:09 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — The Buccaneers need a mini-miracle to pull this one off. Tampa is on the verge of falling to 3-5.
Ravens 27, Buccaneers 16
11:06 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The Ravens make it a two-possession game on a 30-yard field goal from Justin Tucker. Baltimore should be able to close this one out comfortably.
11:02 p.m. — Kenyan Drake rips off a massive 40-yard run! The Ravens are in great position to ice the game with at least a field goal.
Ravens 24, Buccaneers 16
10:59 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Succop’s 26-yard attempt is good. The Buccaneers make it a one-score game, but they’ll need a stop and eight more points to tie this game.
10:58 p.m. — The Bucs get back up to the 3-yard line and opt to go for it on 4th & Goal, but a false start by Leonard Fournette frustrates Brady and forces a field goal attempt.
10:56 p.m. — A holding call on Donovan Smith erases a touchdown by Cade Otton. Pretty blatant.
10:54 p.m. — Chuck Clark nearly intercepted Brady in the end zone, and rookie safety Kyle Hamilton is down on the field in pain.
10:53 p.m. — A huge pass-interference call moves Tampa 40 yards down the field and into the red zone. The door is open to make this a one-score game with plenty of time left.
10:52 p.m. — The Buccaneers are at midfield, keeping their hopes alive. They’re going to need a quick score to have a chance.
Ravens 24, Buccaneers 13
10:47 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — There goes Devin Duvernay! Duvernay rumbles his way to the end zone on a run and puts the Ravens in full control of this game.

10:43 p.m. — You have to give Greg Roman some credit for how methodically the Ravens’ offense has moved in the second half. Baltimore is missing Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman.
10:39 p.m. — Gus Edwards rips off a 22-yard run to get the Ravens’ drive started, but he’s down after the play.
Ravens 17, Buccaneers 13
10:34 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Ryan Succop connects from 30 yards out to trim the deficit. Ravens will have a chance to take full control on this next drive, but Tampa is in this game.
10:33 p.m. — The Bucs are going to have to attempt a field goal. Brady and Evans were on two different pages in the red zone, and Brady was hit hard by defenders when he was forced to run on 3rd & 10.
10:31 p.m. — Brady finds Mike Evans for a HUGE 51-yard reception down the sideline! The Buccaneers are suddenly in the red zone and threatening to tie the game up.

End of third quarter: Ravens 17, Buccaneers 10
10:27 p.m. — The third quarter ends with a short gain by Chris Godwin to open the Bucs’ drive. With the way the Ravens are moving the ball, Tampa desperately needs to find a rhythm on offense here.
Ravens 17, Buccaneers 10
10:23 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Jackson hits Likely in the back of the end zone for a 10-yard score. Likely is having a night with Andrews out, and the Ravens are suddenly up 17-10.

10:21 p.m. — Demarcus Robinson keeps his balance along the sideline and converts a 3rd & 9 for the Ravens. Baltimore is at the Bucs’ 13-yard line looking for another touchdown.
10:19 p.m. — Jackson hits Isaiah Likely over the middle for a 17-yard gain. The Ravens are across midfield, and Likely has a career-high 51 yards on the night.
10:16 p.m. — Brady is clearly frustrated on the sideline. Cameras caught him having animated conversations with OC Byron Leftwich and center Robert Hainsey. Tampa’s offense hasn’t done much since the first quarter.
10:13 p.m. — The Buccaneers can’t capitalize on White’s impressive plays and are forced to punt again. The Ravens will have a chance to take the lead.
10:12 p.m. — Julio Jones comes in and gets the ball, but he doesn’t look comfortable out there. Jones just hasn’t been able to stay on the field since 2020.
10:10 p.m. — Rookie Rachaad White rips off a 20-yard catch-and-run. The Bucs look revitalized after the Ravens’ drive.
10:08 p.m. — Buccaneers OLB Shaquil Barrett was quickly ruled out with an ankle injury. That’s a big blow to Tampa’s defense tonight, and his status going forward is a concern considering how quickly the Bucs made the announcement.
Buccaneers 10, Ravens 10
10:06 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — They did it! The Ravens finally get over their end zone woes as Jackson finds Kenyan Drake for the 5-yard touchdown. We are all tied at 10.
10:04 p.m. — After Shaquil Barrett limps over to the sideline, the Ravens get right back to it and ride Devin Duvernay into the red zone. This is where Baltimore has struggled all night.
9:59 p.m. — Lamar Jackson utilizes his mobility and rips off a tremendous 25-yard run. Ravens are in business.

9:58 p.m. — TE Mark Andrews has been ruled out with a shoulder injury. Tough break for Andrews, who worked hard to be active tonight after battling a knee injury during a short week.
9:57 p.m. — That’s the start to the second half the Ravens needed. Tampa goes three-and-out, and the Ravens will start near their own 23-yard line.
9:54 p.m. — The Buccaneers receive the ball, and we are underway in the second half. Let’s see if Tampa can tack on some points.
9:50 p.m. — Our search for offense on ‘Thursday Night Football’ continues. After a high-scoring game between the Cardinals and Saints last week and a promising start tonight, both offenses hit a wall in the second quarter. It did feel like the Ravens started to find something before the half, but Baltimore can’t afford to let the Bucs extend their lead right out of halftime.
End of first half: Buccaneers 10, Ravens 3
9:39 p.m. — The Buccaneers BLOCK Tucker’s 61-yard field goal attempt. The only Ravens points of the first half came after a muffed punt set them up in the red zone. Tampa leads at halftime and will get the ball to start the second half.
9:38 p.m. — The Ravens are trying to get some points out of this. Jackson hits James Proche II to get over midfield and give Justin Tucker a chance at a long-range field goal.
9:34 p.m. — The veteran Justin Houston shifts the momentum all by himself, sacking Brady on back-to-back plays. Those are the first two sacks of the game for the Ravens. Buccaneers will punt.
9:31 p.m. — This time, Brady hits Evans downfield for a big play. The Buccaneers are getting close to midfield and have a chance to tack onto their lead.

9:29 p.m. — The increasingly aggressive Harbaugh goes for it, Jackson’s pass to Robinson is broken up in the end zone by Jamel Dean, and the Ravens again come away with nothing. Bucs take over.

9:26 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — After an underthrow left him frustrated, Jackson hits Isaiah Likely who comes up three yards short of the 1st Down marker. Decision time for John Harbaugh…
9:23 p.m. — Demarcus Robinson is having a really impressive first half. The former Chiefs WR catches back-to-back passes for a total of 30 yards and quickly puts the Ravens in the red zone.
9:17 p.m. — Brady airs it out downfield and nearly hits Evans, but Marlon Humphrey catches up with the pass to break it up. After another Brady incompletion, Tampa is punting. Can the Ravens tie it up before halftime?
9:13 p.m. — The Bucs force a punt and will have just under six minutes to make this a two-possession game. They’ll start deep in their own territory.
9:11 p.m. — The Ravens are moving backwards. After an offensive pass interference penalty, Jackson is forced into an intentional grounding call that leaves Baltimore with a 3rd & 36…
9:10 p.m. — Mark Andrews, already playing through a knee issue, is questionable to return with a shoulder injury. If he can’t return, expect to see an even more run-based offense from Baltimore.
9:07 p.m. — The Ravens’ offense is moving methodically, mostly via the running game. They’re past midfield after a couple short runs by Edwards.
9:04 p.m. — Mark Andrews doesn’t look fully healthy… He heads to the sideline again after a short catch on 2nd & 13.
9:02 p.m. — There’s some life from the Ravens’ offense! Gus Edwards runs for 12 yards to give Baltimore some breathing room deep in their own territory.
8:59 p.m. — Nice play by Geno Stone to break up a pass to Chris Godwin and force a punt. Even nicer punt by Jake Camarda. Ravens will be pinned deep.
8:56 p.m. — Devin Duvernay goes nowhere, the Ravens are forced to punt again, and the Bucs will start out this next drive near their own 46-yard line.
End of first quarter: Buccaneers 10, Ravens 3
8:53 p.m. — Vita Vea sacks Lamar Jackson for a huge 13-yard loss, quickly forcing the Ravens into a 3rd & 23 scenario. The Bucs’ defense is in control through one quarter.

8:49 p.m. — Evans has been open in the end zone multiple times already, but Brady has been overshooting him. Still, the separation Evans is creating is a good sign for Tampa’s offense.
Buccaneers 10, Ravens 3
8:48 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The Ravens blow up a 1st Down play behind the line of scrimmage and force two Brady incompletions in the end zone. Ryan Succop comes on and drills the 31-yard field goal to extend the Buccaneers’ lead.
8:45 p.m. — The Bucs’ blocking has been much improved tonight. After a series of short gains, including a nice catch-and-run by Breshad Perriman, Tampa is back in the red zone.
8:42 p.m. — Right away, Tom Brady finds Mike Evans for a 23-yard gain. This is the Tampa offense we saw most of last season.
8:39 p.m. — The Buccaneers’ defense is playing with some energy tonight. Tampa notches a three-and-out after forcing Lamar Jackson to run all across the field just to keep a 3rd down play alive. Bucs getting the ball back.
Buccaneers 7, Ravens 3
8:33 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Leonard Fournette caps off a terrific drive with a short touchdown run. The Buccaneers’ offense makes a statement after scoring only three points last week.
8:29 p.m. — On 2nd & 1, Brady hits Chris Godwin for a huge 44-yard catch-and-run. The Buccaneers are set up at the Ravens’ 8-yard line.

8:27 p.m. — Yikes. Marlon Humphrey nearly intercepts Tom Brady’s first pass of the game. Leonard Fournette picks Brady up with a 9-yard run on the next snap.
Ravens 3, Buccaneers 0
8:23 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Despite excellent field position after the Bucs’ mistake, the Ravens can’t find the end zone. Justin Tucker drills a 22-yard field goal to give Baltimore the early lead.
8:20 p.m. MUFFED PUNT — After Jackson’s pass to Andrews on 3rd & 9 is broken up, the Ravens punt and two Buccaneers collide! The Ravens recover the muffed punt and are suddenly set up with 1st & Goal.
8:18 p.m. — Well, Mark Andrews looks healthy. Lamar Jackson hits him for a first down and much more on the first snap and looks his way again on the very next play.
8:16 p.m. — The Buccaneers have elected to defer, the Ravens will start with the ball, and we are underway! Devin Duvernay takes the ball out to the 22-yard line.
8:10 p.m. — It’s partly cloudy in Tampa with temperatures hovering around 80. With only slight winds, it doesn’t look like weather conditions will be much of a factor tonight.
7:57 p.m. — Julio Jones is warming up ahead of his return. Could the former all-pro give the Bucs’ struggling offense a jolt?

7:41 p.m. — The pressure on Tom Brady is increasing. If the Buccaneers lose tonight, it would be the first time in Brady’s 23-year career that his team would sit two games under .500.
7:29 p.m. — Ravens TE Mark Andrews is active and set to play despite a knee injury. After making a limited impact last week against the Browns, Andrews’ effectiveness will be worth watching early on.
