We are eight weeks into the 2022 NFL season, and the Eagles still have yet to lose their first game. Just as we all expected.
Philly’s incredible start has taken a lot of experts by surprise, and they’ll look to stay undefeated in primetime this week as they take on the Texans on “Thursday Night Football.”
Jalen Hurts has worked his way firmly into the MVP discussion thanks to 16 total touchdowns and just two interceptions through the first eight weeks. His favorite target, A.J. Brown, has also been stellar, averaging more than 94 receiving yards per game and racking up five TDs so far. They’ll look to keep it going tonight against the struggling Texans.
Lovie Smith’s first season as Houston head coach has been a disappointment, with the team currently sitting at 1-5-1. Last time out against the Titans, the Texans were ripped apart by Derrick Henry to the tune of 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns. It ended in a 17-10 loss.
“When you have disappointment like that, the good part is that you get to play a game sooner than normal,” Smith told reporters, “so this Thursday game can be a blessing in disguise a little bit.”

9:24 p.m. — The Texans have a touchdown! Or do they? Mills threw a strike to Chris Moore in the corner of the end zone and it looked like the receiver made a great play to catch it in bounds and hang on. However, the officials have called it incomplete. The play is under review.
9:20 p.m. TWO-MINUTE WARNING — Pierce takes off down the right sideline, stiff-arming his way down to the Eagles’ 26-yard line for a gain of 36! This rookie can flat out play.

9:17 p.m. — Pierce plows forward on two straight plays to get close to the first down marker. Philly’s Fletcher Cox was shaken up on that last play, but he was able to get to the sideline under his own power and looks alright.
Eagles 14, Texans 7
9:10 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Kenneth Gainwell goes up the middle, lowers his shoulder and bulldozes his way over the goal line to give Philly its first lead of the night!

9:08 p.m. — The Eagles convert a short 3rd down via a Hurts quarterback snack. Two plays later, they have it inside the Houston 5-yard line after another solid run by Sanders.
9:03 p.m. — The ball is back in the Eagles’ hands, and immediately Sanders rips off two big runs to move into Houston territory. Philly’s offensive line opened up a huge hole on that last play. Even I could probably have run for a first down there.

9:00 p.m. — Mills picks up 14 yards with a throw to O.J. Howard on 1st down. But after that, the drive stalls out. After an incompletion and a very short run by Pierce, Mills gets sacked on 3rd and 9 to bring out the punting unit.
8:57 p.m. FUMBLE — Steven Nelson goes flying unblocked around the left edge, and his sack on Hurts forces a fumble! That’s a very important turnover for this Houston defense!

8:55 p.m. — Huge start to the drive for the Eagles! First, Hurts passes short middle to Brown, who scurries ahead for a big gain of 31 yards. On the next play, Hurts completes it to DeVonta Smith for 22 more yards. In the blink of an eye, Philly has it on the brink of the red zone.

8:50 p.m. — A costly false start on Laremy Tunsil turns a 3rd and 6 into a 3rd and 11. Mills scrambles and picks up about 8 yards but can’t quite make the line to gain. That’ll force the first punt of the night.
8:47 p.m. END OF THE FIRST QUARTER — The Texans go back to Pierce on two straight plays to start the drive, and he picks up enough for a first down. That’s the end of the quarter.
Texans 7, Eagles 7
8:39 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Hurts hands off to Sanders, who lowers his shoulder and surges into the end zone! That caps off an 18-play, 91-yard drive for the Eagles! This has been an entertaining game so far with the first quarter winding down.

8:38 p.m. — Desmond King sacks Hurts on 1st and goal, then Kenneth Gainwell makes a short catch to get down to around the 2-yard line. On 3rd down, Miles Sanders runs left but gets virtually nothing. It’s 4th and goal, and the Eagles are going to go for this.
8:36 p.m. — It’s 3rd and 8 again, but for the third time this drive Hurts converts — this time with a completion to Dallas Goedert. First and goal, Philly.
8:35 p.m. — Hurts goes over the middle to tight end Jack Stoll for a 13 yard gain, and the Eagles have worked their way into the red zone.
8:33 p.m. — Two plays later, it’s right back to 3rd and 8 for Philly. This time Hurts finds A.J. Brown, who picks up 9 more yards to keep the drive alive.
8:30 p.m. — With the Eagles facing 3rd and 6, Hurts rolls right and fires downfield to Quez Watkins for a nice gain of 23.
8:28 p.m. — Hurts goes to work for the first time tonight, and he gets some help after Houston’s Jalen Pitre gets called for an early pass interference penalty.
Texans 7, Eagles 0
8:22 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Wow, what a drive! On 2nd and goal, Mills tosses to rookie tight end Teagan Quitoriano, who hangs on with two defenders fighting for the ball all the way to the ground! Great catch, and the Texans have a surprising early lead!

8:17 p.m. — We’re all set for kickoff in Houston. Davis Mills and the Texans will receive the ball first.
8:14 p.m. — Tonight is something a homecoming for Hurts, who was born in Houston and grew up in nearby Channelview, TX.
8:10 p.m. — Jalen Hurts is having the best season of his young career in 2022. He’ll look to keep it going tonight against a porous Houston defense.
