OTTAWA — The New Jersey Devils won their 12th straight game, 5-1 against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday.
Yegor Sharangovich and Michael McLeod each had a goal and an assist for New Jersey (15-3-0). Akira Schmid made 25 saves to win his third consecutive start.
The Devils are one win from matching their franchise-best 13-game winning streak, from Feb. 26-March 23, 2001. They last lost Oct. 24, 6-3 against the Washington Capitals.
Derick Brassard scored for the Senators (6-10-1). Cam Talbot made 16 saves in relief of Anton Forsberg, who allowed three goals on 18 shots.
Erik Haula‘s wrist shot from the slot beat a heavily screened Forsberg for a power-play goal to give the Devils a 1-0 lead at 7:10 of the first.
Nathan Bastian made it 2-0 at 15:54 when he backhanded a Miles Wood rebound at the edge of the crease.
Jesper Boqvist scored on a rebound in front to make it 3-0 at 3:00 of the second.
Brassard took a cross-ice pass from Erik Brannstrom and scored between Schmid’s pads to get the Senators within 3-1 at 17:29. It was his first goal in 10 games.
Sharangovich scored a shorthanded goal off the rebound of a shot by Nico Hischier to make it 4-1 at 19:25.
McLeod scored into an empty net for the 5-1 final at 17:31 of the third.
