Free-agent superstar Aaron Judge will meet with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, sources told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
The reigning American League MVP arrived in the Bay Area on Monday night, according to video obtained by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.
“I’m just visiting some family and friends,” he said. “That’s about it.”
The Giants are widely anticipated to be one of the biggest threats to the New York Yankees‘ hopes of re-signing the superstar, according to Feinsand. Judge’s hometown of Linden, California, is about 90 minutes east of San Francisco, and he grew up a Giants fan.
San Francisco was unable to repeat the success of 2021’s shocking 107-win campaign this past season, crashing down to a .500 record.
The team has been open about its desire to spend during the winter in an attempt to keep pace with the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. Outfield is a particular position of need for the Giants, who are also reportedly interested in Cody Bellinger and Brandon Nimmo.
“From a financial standpoint, there’s nobody that would be out of our capability,” Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said earlier in November.
Judge earned his first career MVP award after hitting an AL-record 62 home runs and leading the majors in nearly every offensive category.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman revealed last Friday that the team presented Judge with a new offer. The Dodgers are also reportedly lurking as a potential suitor.
