Groth has claimed the once-safe Liberal seat, ousting incumbent Labor MP, Chris Brayne.
The seat of Nepean covers the southernmost part of the Mornington Peninsula, an area that has been hard-hit throughout the pandemic with many businesses crippled by travel and COVID-19 restrictions.
Groth and his wife Britt are raising their young twin boys, Mason and Parker, in Blairgowrie, having moved there in 2020.
Speaking with live to 9News’ election panel, Groth earlier he was “confident” he would win the seat.
“It’s been extremely positive. I’m confident, if we are to have any chance tonight of the Liberal Party and the Coalition getting into government in this state, Nepean is the one that has to turn,” Groth said.
“The voters have been telling me that and I get the feeling there is a change in the air tonight.”
