Former Reading Royals goaltender Felix Sandstrom made his NHL debut with Philadelphia Flyers in their game at San Jose on Thursday night.
Another former Royals goalie, James Reimer, started for the Sharks.
Sandstrom started after being promoted from the taxi squad to the active roster on Tuesday. Goaltender Carter Hart was placed in the NHL’s COVID protocol on Monday, and Martin Jones — the only other goalie on the active roster — played for Philadelphia in its win over Seattle on Wednesday night.
Sandstrom was selected by the Flyers in the third round of the 2015 NHL draft and played in 25 games with the Royals during the 2019-20 season. He also played in 28 career games with Lehigh Valley since April 2019, including 15 this season.
Sandstrom is the 44th player in Reading franchise history to advance to the NHL, and the third to make his debut this season. Forward Max Willman made his debut with Philadelphia on Oct. 15, and forward Justin Danforth made his debut with Columbus on Nov. 15.
