It hardly seems like a year ago that we were reporting on Jon Rahm signing with Callaway Golf. Just weeks later, the Spaniard shot 59 in a practice round at home in Arizona with his bag full of new Callaway gear, and a Chrome Soft X ball to boot. His rise to World No. 1 — and victory at the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines — defied the old superstition about changing equipment mid-career.
Of course, Team Callaway runs much deeper than Jon Rahm. It’s building on both Men’s and Women’s Tours around the world.
Today the Carlsbad, Calif. golf, technology, and entertainment company announced two major additions to their Tour staff — Yuka Saso and Abraham Ancer.
Saso already has a U.S. Open to her credit, having captured the title at Olympic Club in 2021 at age 19 in a thrilling playoff finish. She has already won 3 events since turning professional in 2019 and is currently 8th in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. Saso will make her Callaway debut at the LPGA Tour Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions later this month.
“I’m so happy to join Callaway, and to work with their outstanding Tour team as I start the next phase of my career with their equipment,” Saso said. “From their drivers to their golf balls, the performance really stands out to me in testing and out on the course. I feel confident that this is the best setup for my game, and I’m looking forward to a great year.”
On the Men’s side, the popular Mexican star Abraham Ancer also joins Team Callaway, starting the year with a new Rogue ST Driver at the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua Resort in Hawaii.
Ancer is currently the highest-ranked Mexican player in the world, falling inside the top-20 at press time.
“I’m excited to officially join Callaway,” said Ancer. “After playing their equipment over the past several years, I feel really confident about making the switch, The performance from their drivers is always impressive, their putters are outstanding, and I’ve developed a strong relationship with their Tour Team. This is a great fit for me, and I can’t wait to get this new year started.”
Born in Texas and raised in Mexico, Ancer has been one of the top players in the world over the past several years. In 2021, he earned his first PGA TOUR win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and finished 9th in the FedEx Cup Standings, all while using a Callaway Epic Speed Driver and an Odyssey Putter.
