Jersey Lebron James wore during the first half of Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals was sold for 3.7 million dollars, per Dan Hajducky from ESPN.
That puts him as the third most expensive game-worn jersey sold at Sotheby’s auction, after Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals jersey (10.91 million dollars) and Diego Maradona’s jersey from the match against England in the 1986 World cup, famous for his “Hand of God” goal (9.28 million dollars).
The night he wore this jersey, James scored 37 points, with 12 rebounds and four assists, as the Miami Heat won the title against San Antonio Spurs.
The jersey happens to be from the season James won his fourth and latest NBA MVP Award, which tied him for third-most with Wilt Chamberlain, behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (six) and Bill Russell and Michael Jordan (both with five).
“This successful sale of another incomparable legend’s jersey is one of the most significant jerseys ever to hit the auction block,” Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectibles, said in a statement.
The previous record for a game-worn James jersey was for his 2020 NBA All-Star Game jersey, which sold for 630,000 dollars in 2020.
