During the annual dinner offered by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America in New York, the now New York Mets pitcher, Justin Verlander, received his third Cy Young Award, and was accompanied by his wife, model Kate Upton, who captivated the attendees with her gala dress and her beauty.
Verlander looks to make history with Mets
Justin Verlander won the award for the great season he had with the champion Houston Astros, where he had a record of 18-4, with an ERA of 1.75. During the break, Justin signed a two-year deal with the New York Mets for $86 million.
During the Cy Young ceremony, Verlander received the trophy from Buck Showalter, who will be his manager with the Mets. And to celebrate the occasion, Upton posted a photo of the two on his Instagram account where he wrote: “all dressed up.”
“Thank you, Buck, for the kind words,” Verlander said. “I’ve had the pleasure of playing for some great Hall of Fame managers in my career and I really hope to have the opportunity to play for another, so thank you. I’m very excited to begin the next chapter of my career with the Mets. Thanks to Steven and Alex Cohen for bringing me here to New York,” added the stellar pitcher.
Justin heads into his 18th season in MLB
After being announced as the Mets’ new All-Star pitcher, Verlander held a press conference where he said, “Why put in all that time and effort and work and sacrifice and sell myself short at the end. It’s like running a marathon and stopping a mile from the finish line. Maybe I’m 10 miles from the finish line. I don’t know.
“What, you’d do that? That’s my mentality. I feel great. My body feels great. I feel like the game will naturally tell me when it’s time to step away and I feel like I’m nowhere near that point yet.”
Both he and Upton bought an apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side for $16.75 million. Upton and Verlander have been married since 2017.
