The Hogs had a year to remember in 2021. As 2022 is now in full swing, let’s take a look back at the best moments from a year we’ll never forget!
- Arkansas Women’s Golf started out the new season strong, as the Hogs won the Cougar Classic to start the 2021 Fall Campaign. The Razorbacks, who finished the event at 23-under, were guided by a historic performance from Brooke Matthews, who shattered the NCAA’s 54-hole record with a 25-under performance. Matthews went 63-64-64, finishing the tournament at 191, a truly remarkable score.
- Head Coach Shauna Taylor’s program continues to place players in the pros, and a lot of that starts with the NW Arkansas Championship, which is held right up the road at Pinnacle Country Club. Seven current or former Hogs took part in the 2021 edition of the tournament – Maria Fassi, Gaby Lopez, Stacy Lewis, Alana Uriell, Brooke Matthews and Kajal Mistry all played in the event, while Mistry and Cory Lopez played in the qualifying round.
- After a dramatic win at the 2020 Blessings Collegiate Invitational, a tournament comprised of all 14 SEC teams, the Hogs came into 2021 looking to defend their title. On their home course, they successfully did so, dominating the field, finishing 19 strokes of second place UCLA. Matthews successfully defended her individual title, as well, beating teammate Cory Lopez by four strokes.
- To finish off the 2020-21 season, the Hogs made yet another NCAA Regional, the 14th in a row under Taylor’s watchful eye. The Hogs nearly advanced to the NCAA Championship in Louisville, but fell just short, losing to South Carolina in a playoff.
- The year ended with some great news – Brooke Matthews, who has arguably been the best women’s amateur golfer in the nation for a year and a half, earned her LPGA card. She will join Fassi, Lewis, Lopez and Uriell on the tour starting in 2022.
