Gosh that was an unbelievable struggle, but on her fifth set point the 37-year-old lashes an ace when she needs it most and follows it with a massive fist pump and roar.
Stosur takes the second set 6-3 after a marathon final game of the set which took well in excess of 10 minutes to complete.
“I think just nerves and wanting to close out the set so badly,” Jelena Dokic said on commentary for Nine.
“You want to walk off the court feeling like you left everything out there. It’s about finding that balance of wanting to win this set but making sure that you’re committing to the process of how you got into this position.
“It was one of the best Sam Stosur fist pumps I’ve ever seen.”
Can the 2011 US Open winner close it out in the deciding third set?
“Maybe she’ll release herself and start to play some tennis that she knows, and we knows, she can play,” Sam Smith adds.
The last time Stosur came back from a set down to win in Australia? Back in 2003 against Conchita Martinez.
