Most high handicap golfers have an improper back angle when addressing the ball. Your back angle should be approximately 38 to 50 degrees.
If the back is too upright, the shoulders can’t turn on the proper plane, forcing the hands to get ahead of the chest on the backswing. This causes shanks and slices.
If your posture is correct, you should feel athletic and balanced, similar to preparing to shoot a foul shot in basketball.
• Bend at the waist until you feel your weight over the tips of your feet.
• Push your buttocks out to counterweight your balance.
• Flex the knees while maintaining good posture.
If you have a history of lower back pain, try not bending as much at the waist.
Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
