CORPUS CHRISTI – The UTSA women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday afternoon at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders secured the doubles point after a 6-2 win at No. 2 and an unfinished No. 1 match.
TAMUCC claimed the first singles point with a win at No. 6. Eva Beyebach split the first two sets of her match at No. 4, 1-6, 6-2 but came up short in the third, 0-6. At No. 3, Alexandra Weir clinched a winning three set match for the Roadrunners. After dropping the first set 1-6, Weir pushed her opponent in a 7-5 second set for a final 6-0 sweep to claim a point for UTSA. Aleksandra Zlatarova won a 7-6 tiebreaking first set in her match at No. 1 before falling in the final two sets, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2, Jasmin Starr won her first set 6-1 but was upended in the final sets of her match, 6-3, 6-4.
The Roadrunners return home on Sunday for a matchup against Sam Houston State at 11 a.m.
