NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women’s tennis team will host an in-state foe on Saturday morning when they take on the ULM Warhawks. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers are on a four-match winning streak heading into the weekend. After losing their season opener to South Alabama, the Privateers have only conceded four points during their winning streak which continued after a road win against Jackson State on Tuesday.
Mar Gendra has continued her fantastic start to the season in singles. Gendra is 4-0 and has not dropped a set in singles since the season started. Eight of her nine sets won have come with dropping four or fewer games and she has not been pushed to a set tiebreak yet on the year.
Lina Hohnhold has posted four consecutive singles wins. Hohnhold won 6-1, 6-0 against her opponent from Jackson State earlier in the week. During the course of her winning streak, Hohnhold has only dropped 11 games.
As a team, the Privateers are 10-4 in doubles matches this season. Hohnhold and Marthe Degeorges have posted a 4-1 mark in doubles, all at flight one. Ank Vullings and Estelle Vanthier are on a three-match winning streak in doubles.
The two sides have not played since 2015. New Orleans has won six of the last eight matches against the Warhawks though ULM won the most recent meeting 4-3. ULM is 2-2 on the season with most recently a 5-2 victory against Nicholls on Feb. 5.
